On October 15, 2018, the Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRIFISH) met under the Austrian Presidency.
During the public hearing, the Agriculture Ministers of the Member States, together with the Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan, discussed about the developments on the strategic plans. Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan has reinforced his support for a simplified and flexible CAP.
I recall that, with regard to strategic plans, the Commission’s proposal for the new CAP indicates that there will be 27 Strategic Plans and different implementation models from one state to another. I hope that the Romanian authorities will present an adequate plan, adapted to the realities of the Romanian farmers.
It has also been concluded that, under the new proposed delivery model, the responsibilities of the Member States and the Commission need to be well shared.
Another important topic discussed by the AGRIFISH Council was again the African Swine Fever. Ministers agreed that the EU legislation and measures on prevention and combating, need to be uniformly implemented across the Union. I fully agree with this idea. Moreover, I believe that the Ministries of Agriculture in the Member States must take responsibility for the failure to prevent this disease.
